GUIDING

NATURAL FISHING IS A CHALLENGE

We carry our areas without replenishment. The precisely adapted fish of our waters are to pass on their genes and thus preserve the good qualities that have been around for ages.

This is not easy for us fly fishermen, as these fish live very sparingly and do not make extra meters for our flies. They have instincts and a difficult habitat; they have to be able to grow and be productive.

We protect our "mothers". These well-grown fish spawn successfully even in difficult years and produce offspring with hopefully similar growth potential. Harvesting takes place in the most productive segment. Based on scientific surveys, we know the structure of our brown trout population. Feel free to check it out. Harvesting is extrapolated to annual licenses. On this basis, the State of Tyrol has granted us an exemption from the Brittelmaß (minimum size) and we were able to adapt the harvest window accordingly. So, it will get even better in the future. The harvest window is now at 23-25 cm; all other brown trout must be handled carefully and released.

Thus, the good fish stay in the stream and offer the chance of a fantastic drills with the most beautiful end - the reset.

Our flies – your contribution

Fliegenfischen mit Herz sources its flies from the women’s initiative Fair Fly in Kenya. This self-help project was founded by women who would otherwise have no opportunity to earn a living. The group currently consists of 30 members between the ages of 20 and 38 and is 100% led and managed by the women themselves. This means they are not dependent on third parties, can create their own working conditions, and receive fair payment for their work.

Unemployment and underemployment among young people in Kenya are extraordinarily high. Combined with widespread poverty, around 60% of the population lives below the poverty line, earning less than one dollar a day. Young people — disadvantaged not only because of their socioeconomic background but also due to limited educational opportunities that could give them an advantage in the competition for the few available jobs — are the group most affected by unemployment.

By tying and exporting artistically crafted flies, the women of Fair Fly are able to change their social and economic status, improving their own lives as well as the lives of their families and the wider community.

A school and housing for single mothers are also urgently needed. Achieving these long-term goals will require a great deal of work and support. However, the collaboration with the women of Fair Fly has begun extremely well, and we are confident that we can reach these goals together.
